Our review is therefore aimed more so for an individual with the intention of unknowingly engaging with ancient concepts and tropes. On that point, it’s important you know now that this book would not be ideal for someone trying to get into the classics. ![]() This question is a little difficult to answer given the book is not rooted in the ancient world, nor has a mythological connection. With the entrance of a new person called 16, the dark truth unveils itself of how the world came to be and what Piranesi’s vital role within it really is. There is only one other person who is living in this world, a man who Piranesi refers to as “The Other”, and someone he sees twice a week to discuss the layout of the labyrinth within which they reside.Īs the story unfolds and Piranesi begins to gradually understand the Halls he lives in more, not everything appears to be as simple as he once thought. The number of those that have existed within Piranesi’s world come to the grand total of 15 beings, however 13 of those are already deceased - only their bones remain within the labyrinth, continually being remembered and cared for by Piranesi. ![]() Aside from the decor, the rooms are all different: some having windows when others do not, some have all four walls when others only have enough fragments of support to hold up the ceiling, and some do not have any openings at all aside from a door through which to enter and exit. ![]() This labyrinth styled setting seems to extend for miles, each hall only similar to the next by the differing display of statues within them. Piranesi follows our protagonist of the same name as he exists in a world of rooms, halls and vestibules.
